The Jeffrey Leder Gallery is pleased to present the first LIC solo exhibition of the Colombian-born American artist Jorge Posada. The gallery, an historic two-story brownstone, is located at 2137 45th Road in Long Island City around the block from MoMA/PS1.

Jorge Posada’s art has evolved into a semi-figurative depiction of the body: a cross between figuration and abstraction. He works by series in a mixed-media of charcoal, acrylic and oil on canvas and paper, which address the human form in motion. In the compositional structure of his paintings and drawings, Posada creates a tension between the fragments of the body which are embedded into colors, textures and carefully applied transparencies. He places them in a pictorial geography occupied
by arrows which he uses as a metaphor for the action of going blindly in every direction.

“It is my intention to be part of a collective memory. I use the human form to explore the body and the rituals of violence which are very much present in my native country as well as in our global society.” - Jorge Posada

Abstract paintings from the new series Whispers on the Wall will be also on display. This series is Posada’s personal interpretation of walls photographed by him. on the walls he finds secret messages which show him visual compositions, human shapes and the unseen presence of others. Colombian-born American artist Jorge Posada is a painter, print-maker and sculptor who works from his studio in LIC,New York City for more than 16 years. He has received several awards from prestigious institutions and his artwork is in major public and private collections in the USA, europe, Japan and Latin America.
