The Embassy of Colombia through the framework set by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Plan to Promote Colombia Abroad is pleased to announce the exhibition "Silver Works" by the artist Alexandra Agudelo that will open on March 20th in the Residence of the Ambassador of Colombia Luis Carlos Villegas in Washington DC. The exhibition will be open to the public for a month.

Alexandra Agudelo is a silver artisan, graduated from Escuela de Artes y Oficios Santo Domingo of Bogotá who will soon obtain her degree in fine arts from Universidad de los Andes. Agudelo uses an ancient technique known as “batido”, which involves hitting a sheet between two hard surfaces with a hammer in order to expand or collect material without resorting to welding. Her works are inspired by the natural environment found in the Pacific and Caribbean regions of Colombia.

Agudelo manages to capture emotions and feelings in her works, with a mixture of rigid and malleable objects and colors used in ways that have a meaning, such as the bright pieces that express innocence. She has exhibited in numerous galleries in New York, Miami, Bogota, Geneva, London, Dubai and Paris. The most prominent where Design Miami Basel (2013) in Basel, in the Pavilion des Arts et du Design (2011) in Paris and the Design Art London (2010) in London.

Agudelo has won several awards, such as ‘Traza Artesanal’ and “Lápiz de Acero” in 2007, 2009 and 2010 respectively, granted during an event organized by the magazine Project Design Colombia.
