Carlo Cattelani (1931-1999) has been an important figure for Italian contemporary art. Amicably called the “butcher collector”, his aura of enthusiasm is still very present in the region, and often times people still recounts stories on the man who bought the famous “mozzarella in carrozza” by Gino De Dominicis.

What probably not many people know is that, with their infective spirituality, Cattelani and his magnificent wife Aftra influenced a huge number of artist of their time, by commissioning them artworks around the idea of the relationship between God and art. The cultural inheritance of Carlo's intuitions is passed on – together with the fond memories of artists and friends – also by the works left in the farmhouse of Baggiovara, in the Modena province, of which this exhibition is just a small selection.

“The work of the artists”, wrote Franco Guerzoni, “was participated by Carlo with such a strong and direct intensity that this created a sense of embarrassment. He was no critic, no dealer, no collector. Maybe he was a volatile blend of different knowledge.”

The Studio Cloud 4 is honored to be able to display the works of a man who, like not many others in Italy, has worked actively in order to increase the public interest for contemporary art.
