Catrin Williams was born in 1966 and brought up on a hill-farm near Bala, north Wales. She has lived on the Lleyn peninsula since 1996. She has exhibited extensively and has become one of Wales’ most popular and successful artists. Catrin was elected to the Royal Cambrian Academy in 2001.

Welshness, or rather the experience of living in Wales, is a constant theme in her work. Her inspiration comes from her background and upbringing in Meirionnydd: the home and the farm; celebrations and the clothing; music and Welsh culture; family traditions and familiar faces. She is well known as a consummate colourist and, indeed, Peter Prendergast, commended her on her command of colour.

Catrin Williams’ latest exhibition is a solo show at Oriel Tegfryn in Menai Bridge. It consists of 35 new paintings, which show continuing development in her work. These paintings are more lyrical, looser and more expansive in style than previously, while still retaining Catrin’s joyous use of colour and returning to her favourite subject-matter – the Welsh landscape and its people.
