The latest artist to join Ffin y Parc gallery with her first solo show holds the prestigious accolade of being the youngest member ever to be elected to the Royal Cambrian Academy.

Chester based artist Chloe Holt was awarded First Prize in the Sir Kyffin Williams Drawing Prize in October 2012, then earlier in 2012 Chloe was elected RCA Academician, aged just 31. In 2010 she also won the International Lorenzo il Magnifico prize by the Florence Biennale for works on paper. Influenced by her walks and hikes in Snowdonia, Chloe has produced some 30 new works capturing the natural landscape around her for her first solo show.

About her work Chloe said: “I’m naturally concerned with composition, decomposition, colour and form. I like there to be a rhythm and depth in the painting style which draws your eyes across the surface and excites the eyes and the mind. Translating the energy of the subject through the physicality of mark making and gestures. Beautiful, almost perfect compositions admiring and understanding the beauty of life.”

“I celebrate and understand my medium and how it can inspire the outcome. A fusion of mind and material. My experience with textiles links directly to my love of tactile works and surfaces, and the notion of portraying the personality of your subject matter.”

Gallery Owner Ralph Sanders added: “Chloe paints with a confidence and maturity beyond her years, her work records the magic and essence of North Wales with her confident mark making.”

Chloe’s show at will be on sale at Ffin y Parc gallery, Llanrwst, from October 27, exhibited jointly with unique Welsh landscape artist Gareth Thomas.

Swansea based artist Gareth, one of the most collected artists in Wales, is a contemporary figurative artist who explores the effects of light and colour on the landscape. Born in Swansea in 1955, he attended Trinity College, Carmarthen. He left teaching in 1979 to paint full time, and has exhibited widely throughout the UK. Gareth’s work can be found in many public collections including The House of Lords, the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery Swansea, and Lloyds Bank plc.

With a passion for painting outdoors he established his reputation with his paintings of the South Wales coast. His subject matter for his latest show includes the coastlines of North Wales, dominated by moody blues and greys, with previous work depicting Provence and Italy and more recently the coastlines of Connemara and Brittany.

Although originally working in watercolour, the artist now works in all media, and has produced 30 acrylic and oil paintings for his latest solo exhibition at Ffin y Parc.

Ralph commented: “For this, his first show at Ffin y Parc, Gareth has chosen to focus particularly on the coastline of Anglesey. He tends to paint outdoors, in situ. He is especially concerned with the way that the light alters the colours in the landscape.”
