Sandra Lee Gallery is pleased to present a two person show featuring paintings by George Rivera and sculptures by Kristin Lindseth Rivera. George Rivera explores the human figure to express fundamental and collective human experience. The artist’s process is deeply personal; his models are friends, relatives and self. Through these subjects he allows the viewer a glimpse into the introverted nuances of the human landscape.

George Rivera uses the media of charcoal, graphite acrylic and oil to capture timeless moments and express the complexity and dimensions of the relationship between the mind and the figure. Rivera’s works are inclusive and become referential for the viewer, stimulating self discovery and personification. In the artist’s words, his paintings are ultimately intended to inspire “faith and hope”.

Kristin Lindseth Rivera portrays the human figure as a method with which to represent the diversity of mankind, across cultures, ages and backgrounds. In this sense she aims to describe the human condition as a duality: the intrinsic self and the self in relation to the world. The relationships Kristin Lindseth Rivera articulates in her works encompass not only human proximities, but a timelessness that connects people to their origins through mythological references. Time becomes an unfinished narrative that looks to the future, reflected by the suggestion of hopefulness. Bronze invokes the primordial yet implies a future permanence; a metaphor for the artist’s insight into humanity and resilience.

Both George and Kristin Lindseth Rivera are acclaimed artists with a breadth of experiences and tributes. Kristin Lindseth Rivera is an award winning sculptor and printmaker whose work has been shown in numerous exhibitions including the Triton Museum, the Haggin Museum of Art, the Morris Graves Museum, and the Palm Springs Museum among others. George Rivera is Associate Faculty Instructor of Art at Mission College in Santa Clara. His professional achievements include the Executive Director and Curator and the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara. He has shown work in over 100 exhibitions including the San Jose Museum of Art, the Art Museum of Los Gatos, and various local galleries.
