This year, 2013, marks the 10th anniversary of the death of Glynn Boyd Harte. He died whilst his last solo exhibition with Curwen Gallery was being exhibited in December of 2003. So it seems fitting to celebrate his life with an exhibition of his work at this time.

Much of this work has not been seen before, as Carrie, Glynn’s widow, has kindly allowed us to have some original paintings and rare lithographs from her own collection. Glynn had over twenty one-man shows of drawings, prints and watercolours, in London (at both The New Academy Gallery and Curwen Gallery), Paris and New York. He was a great friend of Curwen Gallery (and also of Curwen Studio) for many years as both a person and as an artist.

He was, as his art reflects, always lively, colourful and fun to have around, with a seemingly never-ending stream of fabulous anecdotes for any occasion. This exhibition celebrates his life and work, with original paintings in a range of styles. He was well known for his illustrative work, particularly of food and still lives, and many of the paintings and prints show this aspect. Alongside this, there are also works depicting buildings; places of interest in London or shops in a French street.

His much loved lithographs, produced at Curwen Studio, will also feature in the exhibition, many of these depict locations in what was his local area of Fitzrovia in London and include Pollock’s Toy Museum and Elena’s Etoile restaurant on Charlotte Street.

Glynn Boyd Harte was born in Lancashire in 1948 and graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1973. He wrote and illustrated two books; ‘Venice’ and ‘Mr. Harte's Holiday’, the latter being about the north coast of France where he had a house and studio. He travelled extensively, from St. Petersburg to San Francisco, with frequent stays painting in Paris. Glynn divided his time between his homes in Fitzrovia, London and Normandy, France.
