Sandra Lee Gallery is proud to announce a solo exhibition featuring the art of Henry Jackson. In Jackson’s works, one may find layers of discovery as one unearths forms beneath the surface. Inherent in this interpretive series are representations of the human condition, a theme which pervades the imagery. Shapes emerge and recede within the artist’s framework of color, texture and outline. The outcome is a captivating montage that has materialized into existence through a tearing down of the figure.

Jackson’s portrayal of the human form, fractured and frayed, communicates a stirring of unsettled emotions and unresolved passions. Jackson states that to merely depict an action or gesture of a figure is not of concern; rather he is more interested in the process of tearing down a figure through distortion and reduction. Only in removing all that is familiar through his abstraction of color, space, and shape, he is allowed to reveal the truth behind the human form. The resulting fragmented figures are reduced to remnants and deprived in their appearance; however they are astoundingly infused with feeling and expression. These images struggle to endure the building and blending of the paint and wax materials while retaining their very existence. The process of breaking down form and substance is Jackson’s way of reminding us of humankind’s eternal endeavor to persist.
