Rook & Raven Gallery is delighted to present Cut the Conflict a poignant exhibition by the Israeli graphic artist Noma Bar from 22nd November to 2Ist December 2013.

Cut the Conflict will take Noma Bar's distinctive mixture of 'double-take' imagery and biting social commentary to a new level, by collecting different materials from countries in conflict, and exposing their current political and social situation.

An award winning graphic illustratator, Noma has worked for a wide range of clients including Wallpaper, Google, Nike and The Economist. Noma will be bringing 'Cut It Out' machine, a dog-shaped cutting machine to Rook & Raven Gallery, his major project to date. In the shape of a giant dog, the machine can be fed paper, rubber and other materials through its mouth to create some of the most iconic artwork for which Noma is renowned.

For this exhibition Noma will use different materials up to I cm thick such as flags, letters, photos, newspapers, fabric, that have been donated by people from conflicted countries. Noma will then cut by using the dog machine, and mount them on the same page, forcing them to live peacefully alongside each other forever.

One of his first works will be a gun in the shape of a dove made using flags from Mahmood Mubarak in Bethlehem, Palestine and Arik Prussak in Jerusalem, Israel.

The final collection will be comprised of between 30 and 50 new graphic pieces exclusively created for Rook & Raven Gallery. It will capture the nature of conflict in a way that Only Noma can do - translating a sensitive subject into thought-provoking art that exposes social and political situations with a wry sense of juxtaposition.

The 'Cut It Out' machine was first launched at Outline Editions in 2011 for the London Design Festival. It then travelled to Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art and was displayed at the Design Museum in London last year, where it was nominated for an award in the graphics category.

Throughout the years, Noma has developed an incredible ability to turn a negative image into a positive, and Cut the Conflict aims to take his visionary art one step further: off the page and into three dimensions.

Israeli-born Noma Bar studied graphic design and typography at the Jerusalem Academy of Art & Design before moving to London in 2001. Describing his craft as visual communication, combing the skills of artist, illustrator and designer, Noma states he's "after the maximum communication with minimum elements".

Noma's inimitable style is characterised by bold forms and colours that seamlessly blend juxtapositions anf create double meanings.

In 2012 he won the prestigious 'Yellow Pencil Award' for his series of Don DeLillo covers, created with London design studio, It's Nice That. This year Noma Bar was included in the Creativity 50's Annual list of the most inspiring and influential creative figures across the globe.
