This November, the Fleming-Wyfold Foundation will present (Un)coverings, a new collaborative project with artists Paul Macgee and Helen Turner of the open and interdisciplinary artist’s collective, Foundation & Trust.

Interested in the decorative component to the paintings within the Fleming Collection that were originally acquired to adorn the office walls of the Fleming merchant bank’s London premise, Macgee and Turner have been invited to delve into the archives of the Fleming Collection on Berkeley Street to reveal works that have never before been on public display. By putting these paintings, which have been in private hands, on public display in Gallery One, Foundation & Trust aim to highlight how the status of the artworks can shift between interior decoration and art objects.

This curatorial project will be accompanied by new works created by Macgee, Turner and the collective in direct response to the process behind (un)coverings, showcased in Gallery Two. Around 30 new diagrammatic works will continue this empirical exploration of the perception of art itself.

Under the contention that no art moment happens in isolation, the collective's experimentation is far reaching. It will expand dramatically across the floor in Gallery Two with a large carpet painting which plays with institutional graphics and interior decoration technique. In Gallery One bespoke wallpaper will frame the remaining collection, extending the experience right across the space with a combination of abstract landscapes and paintings of office paraphernalia.

Artist Paul Macgee explains; ‘We have an inherent interest in the collection and conjunction between economic discourse and public art space...The Fleming Collection only became public 10 years ago and it is precisely this motion we are interested in explicating.
