Illustrationcupboard Gallery is delighted to present a showcase exhibition highlighting the humorous and acerbic wit of contemporary political cartoonists. In this inaugural event we focus on the original artwork of the award-winning cartoonist Paul Thomas, whose regular contributions to The Daily Express are both incisive and of the moment. No public figure remains safe and politicians especially. This personal selection of over twenty of Paul’s favourite published watercolours gives a fascinating insight into the workings of the modern-day satirist.

Paul has been the political cartoonist of The Daily Express since 1998. Prior to The Daily Express, he was pocket cartoonist for The Independent on Sunday from 1990-2000, for whom he also contributed both sports cartoons and the ‘Blair Babe’ cartoon strip. He was political cartoonist and cartoon editor of Punch magazine from 1987-1991, where he created ‘The Safeways’ strip. Paul’s work has appeared in The Sunday Times, The Times, The Independent, The Daily Telegraph and Private Eye. Alongside Paul there will be contributions from a selection of others, including, for the first time ever, political cartoons by Chris Riddell published in The Guardian.
