Mark Wolfe Contemporary Art is pleased to present Mumbo Jumbo: New Paintings by Scott Patt, exhibiting in The Ell in conjunction with Jud Bergeron's Becoming.

The Mumbo Jumbo Paintings were created from Scott Patt's lifelong obsession with the visual and the verbal. From big business advertising to home made hoopla we are bombarded daily with obnoxious and mind cluttering media and message. Opportunistically nearsighted, Patt created Mumbo Jumbo as a filter to streamline and transmute this loaded information and imagery into oases of vibrant landscapes composed of shapes, rhythms, personalities and colors. With this new collection Patt evolves and unites the graphic language of his bold "Good Luck Hex" series and the fluid forms of his successful "Stays Crunchy in Milk" work into a more distilled take on the world around him.

Scott Patt is an artist whose work is informed by the big pitch, by the aesthetics of communication and its multivalent layers in our physical environments - urban and rural. Inspired by the folk art of his youth and post pop consumerism with its primary colors and promises of a healthier tomorrow, Patt was born in Allentown PA at the confluence of past greats - steel town and country idyll. His paintings, sculpture and installations have been shown around the world - from Japan to New York, with recent solo exhibitions at Winston Wächter Fine Art in NYC and 212 Gallery in Aspen, CO. Scott currently lives and works in Southern California.
