Shine Artists is delighted to present the forthcoming solo exhibition by Tim Wright, opening at the Albemarle Gallery in London on 7th November.

Tim Wright has been painting professionally for 30 years. More recently he has gravitated towards a reaffirmation of figurative painting, and the power of the individual as a subject. This body of work will show a collection of oil paintings and drawings that combine the traditions of classical portraiture with an unequivocal sense of contemporary realism.

Tim Wright’s beautifully realised compositions feature a contemporary cast of unknowns. Through singular studies of his models, he creates composite and temporary societies of strangers. The isolated format and the relaxed pose of the figures evokes an atmosphere of stillness and a feeling of intimacy between the subject and viewer. Yet, with the idiosyncrasies of their poise perfectly captured – his figures transmit an ambiguous dialectic between a relaxed and conscious state, at once complementary and conflicting, open yet reserved. Wright’s fascination with figurative painting is derived from its ability to capture the subtleties of human interaction and the self-consciousness of social settings. In so doing, Wright can be felt to comment on society as a construct, a jarring of our respective individuality, deftly exposing the social contracts that are necessitated by the sharing of space.

Wright’s assured style is mirrored in the size and scale of his work, which arguably allows for a more immediate connection with these hitherto anonymous characters. While his figures may be drawn from obscurity, Wright creates a tension between familiarity and the unknown as they assume roles which reveal both their inner and outer lives in life- size grandeur. Wright has had numerous exhibitions and his work features in many private collections.
