Gallery Wendi Norris is pleased to announce Earthshine, renowned Japanese artist Tomoko Konoike’s American solo debut. Konoike’s works transport viewers to another world through a multidisciplinary practice encompassing drawing, sculpture, animation, and painted byobu screens. Frequently using her own likeness, Tomoko invites viewers into her idiosyncratic world, conceived of as an “auto-cosm”, a dreamy internal dimension that accesses transcendental myths and perhaps the collective unconscious. At turns adorable, treacherous, and sublime, her imagery depicts irrational narratives of transformation that blur the distinctions between humans, animals, objects, and the landscape itself.

Born in Akita, Japan, Tomoko Konoike lives and works in Tokyo. Her work has been exhibited at The Singapore Art Museum; Akita Museum of Art (Japan); Busan Museum (Korea); Ohara Museum of Art (Japan); and the Guangdong Museum of Art (China). Her work is included in the collections of The Art Institute of Chicago; Kiryu City Performing Arts Center (Japan); the Mori Art Museum (Japan); MUZA Kawasaki (Japan); Ohara Museum (Japan), and the Spencer Museum of Art (USA). Most recently Konoike's practice has included public and corporate art projects which include Lodge the Art Museum on Mt. Moriyoshi, Toshio Shimizu Art office, and Sunport Konan in Tokyo, to name a few. Konoike graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts.
