Relationship, Valentina De’ Mathà solo show, is structured as language, representation required to show the man’s addiction from the primordial structure. Among what is in the mind and what there’s in social systems, there’s a third No-Place (or maybe it is better to say “No-Time”?): it is the lack/failure of communication, the misunderstanding.

This exhibition, is basically a work of correlations and bond; relationship that the artist feels as “missing” in that extra-time debate that refers to the most ancestral absence (sexual frustration). The project represents a real “no-meeting”; again No Space/Time. A desire clearly unfulfilled though invariably actual, utopia of a meta-historical dialogue (im)possible. And as well as for N. Chomsky’s linguistic, in which the word is what can make us human, in Valentina De’ Mathà’s artworks is the “manque à etre” the interpretation of a relationship that is absence itself of the object of desire.

“Amidst her favorites materials there’s the paper, paper as symbol of vulnerability of life; white cotton paper or nepalese’s one, emulsified, whit which she can shape female curvy bodies, draperies of sculptural impact. In her research weaving, knots and snares are recurring: all symbols relate with the gesture of loosen and tie. The meaning of her artworks is in the intertwinement of different works, and has both the function of hold together and turn away, while in the gesture of wrench or crumbling of papery materials lying randomly on the floor, refers to the tension of instinct’s release, of breaking what it was laboriously built earlier. Paper sculptures, material protuberances that seems to erupt from the white wall, loosing a recondite energy on ambiguous and ephemeral nature of us and things.”
